Hello. It’s your dad writing from a SECRET SOCIETY.
I had reason to think of MIA on Wednesday, and it reminded me of this song by Emma Lee Moss, who at the time wrote and sang under the accurate name of EMMY THE GREAT.
Then yesterday, while listening to that song on the subway, I saw on Emma’s social media this message, pertaining to her online song writing course called SONG CIRCLE. This is the exact message I needed, and the one maybe you need, too.
Being kind to yourself doesn’t just apply to songwriting, but all kinds of creativity, including writing semi-regular secret letters to strangers.
But if you have a chance to learn songwriting from Emma, you should really be kind to yourself and take that chance. GO HERE.
I also need to tell you that, as always, we have a new episode of JUDGE JOHN HODGMAN out this week.
This one comes to you live from MADISON, WISCONSIN.
We had a really good time talking about square pizza and names of neighborhoods, and Rob showed up in his Minion shorts. You can listen to it HERE.
And also maybe you listened last week to the very charming couple HSIANG and DORIN and wanted to know if they were even more charming on video?
Yes, they are that charming and more so, and here is the evidence.
If you were offended by Hsiang’s contempt for Debussy’s Clair de Lune, go ahead and cry more, because that’s good crying music.
The last time I wrote you we were in Myrtle Beach in the middle of a road trip to Savannah.
At that time I spent a lot of time musing about the 1970s TV show SPACE: 1999, and some of you even knew what I was talking about.
Here’s that lunchbox I found at the BIG CHICKEN BARN in 2017, by the way.
I’m happy it made that guy on instagram happy. But I’m also glad I did not pay 45 dollars for it.
On our way to Savannah we saw a lot of things and ate a lot of fried fish, crabs, and bricks of scrapple, and we also played a lot of Scrabble.
At the top of the stairs I will tell you about some of those things and reveal our new Scrabble philosophy.
You can join me there if you want. But if no, that’s fine. I’ve enjoyed talking to you and will do so again soon.
